Free Range Eggs

Australia has a number of different production systems to satisfy consumer preferences.  About 15% of eggs sold in Australian are free range.

Farm Pride is a member of the Australian Egg Corporation Limited’s (AECL’s) Egg Corp Assured program, a voluntary program based around the fourth edition of the Model Code of Practice for the welfare of Animals Domestic Poultry, as recognised by Choice magazine in July of 2008.

Our Free Range eggs come from Free Range Farms that are third party audited and Egg Corp Assured (ECA) accredited. There is no variation in nutritional content of eggs laid in a free range environment, when compared to eggs produced in an alternative laying system. The only difference is with the hen’s environment.  Our free range hens have the freedom to move around outdoors during daylight hours, whilst their water, food and nests are housed inside sheds.

Our hens health is also strictly monitored and they are cared for according to the Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals - Domestic Poultry 4th Edition.
More information on the Model Code of Practice can be found at: http://www.publish.csiro.au/books/download.cfm?ID=3451

Whilst an ideal environment is created for the hens, the resulting cost of producing free range eggs is higher than other traditional systems.
